Day 59 – Split Stance Jumps!

John Boxing Workout

Before anyone accuses me of slacking, I was just taking a little rest at the end of Power & Speed 4. Having completed the workout, I would normally go outside and finish off with some extra skipping. But it was raining – and I wasn’t feeling that keen!

So, I was sitting there contemplating whether to do an 8 to 1 (press ups, crunches, burpee jumps, star jumps), starting at 8 and then counting down. In total it would be 36 of each exercise – as fast as I could manage. This is usually part of the Technique workout but I thought what the hell – it’s Day 59 after all!

Power & Speed 4. Both Steve and I have said on numerous occasions this is the toughest workout of the 8. I still stand by that. Each Round is fast and intense but without doubt the ‘highlight’ is the Split Stance Jumps. Although I’ve improved, for me, they are an absolute killer.

Split Stance Jumps involve power jumping from the orthodox to southpaw stance – keeping your back straight and jumping as high as possible. Oh, and your hands are in the guard position. On the video Corney seems particularly keen during this section (in an encouraging way!) – so there’s no hiding folks…

Tomorrow I enter uncharted territory – with Corney’s 12 Round Challenge.  I have no idea what expect but with 59 days boxing training behind me I hope to be prepared – at least a little bit….

Cheers, John.
