I was stuck at the desk again today! But during one of my brief moments out of the chair (to make a cup of tea) I got back to this unavoidable message from my wife. I guess it was time to do the workout … I got the hint.
Today workout was Technique 2 – Off the Jab. For the beginner, the introduction of a ‘Sneak Punch’ can throw a small spanner in the works – as can the ‘Slip’ (which Steve talks about in his post today).
The combination builds to this – Jab > Slip > Sneak Punch > Right Cross > Left Hook. It took me a while to get fluid with that one, but don’t worry, there’s plenty of opportunity to practice.
Wise words from Corney after Round 3.
“This combination is a little bit more difficult but the more you do it, the better you’re going to become. I can’t emphasize that enough.
Don’t just hit the bag ‘willy nilly’, concentrate on getting the technique correct as well.”
In case you’re wondering … Will-nilly = ‘in an unplanned, haphazard fashion’.
Haphazard – that’s another good word. And a word which would apply to me if I wasn’t learning proper technique and following a set routine. ‘Injured’ and ‘wrist’ are two more words that would apply!
Cheers, John
