Boxing Slipping
I thought I would share this video today to show some handy tips on boxing slipping. I did Technique Workout 2 today where the slip is used in a few of the combinations. Head movement is crucial in boxing if you like to avoid getting hit – you are a bit weird if you enjoy it, although having said that, I believe there is probably a whole industry focused towards people who like getting hit ๐ .
Slipping is not only useful for dodging punches, but is a great way to set up strong counter attacks so it’s really important to get it right. It’s been good to refresh myself with this technique using the bag and to feel the power you can get in your counter punch when you perform it correctly.
It’s a really common mistake to slip too far when you’re first learning – especially if your training it with a partner. This is quite normal, I mean whenever something comes flying full pelt at your face it’s natural to try an move your head away as far as possible – again unless you’re a bit odd like the people I was referring to above ๐ .
We had a painter here today painting the house – he looked a little perplexed as I walked into the garage with my gloves on only to return 30 minutes later soaked through – He probably thinks I have a shower in there!
The reason for my sweatier than normal state was another round of 10 to 1 – I was really flagging this time and felt like dying. But like all men, I stood tall puffed out my chest and strode past the painter as though I was fine. I walked through the front door let out several gasps of breath and slumped myself on a chair – he’ll never know. ๐
Cheers, Steve.
