Day 36 – Perfecting New Boxing Skills

Technique 3 – Some shadow boxing before the main workout.

Over the weekend I enjoyed some ‘rest and recovery’ away from the gym.  However, I still managed two 8 kilometre walks along the beach.  It was so windy it felt like twice the distance.

I’m happy to say my stamina must be improving – over 2 hours constant walking with no rest stops and I didn’t feel that tired at the end.  I would have normally been complaining! Then again, 36 days ago I would have been carrying the equivalent of a heavy rucksack in extra weight. My legs and feet must wonder what the hell is going on.

On Sunday night, I also took the opportunity to run through this weeks workouts.  I replayed the videos on the iPad trying to analyse the movements in more detail and determine if there’s room for improvement.   After watching the workout Power & Speed 3 (Round 8) with the combination > Double Jab, Cross, Hook, Body Hook – I’ve learnt to appreciate is just how hard Corney hits the bag when he gives it 100%.  His ‘left hook to the body’ looks deadly!

So, I’ve identified a few of my weakest areas and will concentrate on them over the next few weeks;

7 to 1 – One of my biggest struggles – mainly because they come at the end of the workout and I’m usually tiring.  I get frustrated not keeping up.  So, I’m going to pause video at this point – and do the routine to my own ‘maximum effort’.  I’ll switch back to the video next week and see if I’m in sync with Corney and the others on the workout.

Other techniques needing attention – Slips, Sit Downs, Sit Backs – mainly just to be move fluid through the combinations and not pausing to think.  And also more focus when bringing in the Uppercuts and Sneak Punch.

It’s Monday and I have a nice tired feeling after today’s Technique 3 (Long Range).  The wind outside is still hampering my skipping!

Cheers, John.
