Boxing Workout
Spot the difference? I had various appointments during the day, so an early morning boxing workout was the only option (if I’d missed it in the 1st week, Steve and Corney, would have crucified me). Sometimes humiliation is a good motivator :).
Unbeknown to me the photo on the left was taken covertly by my wife, trying to shame me – Checking my email before I’ve even got out of bed (I probably don’t even have my eyes fully wide open). I admit I’m a slave to technology. I’m a victim to the ‘always online’ culture – and I guess I’m almost constantly checking this, that and the other. It’s a seriously bad habit, and a major factor in my ‘sedentary’ lifestyle. (I actually looked up the dictionary definition – “Sedentary – (of a person) tending to spend much time seated; somewhat inactive.)” Yep, that’s me.
Day 3 – Boxing Workout – Technique 1 (The Basics)
My main motivation for the next 60-days is to lose weight, secondly to gain some muscle. But the boxing skills element makes the whole thing more interesting – and the 30 minutes is flying by. I’ve gone from zero to throwing a jab, double jab, right cross, left hook, uppercuts, body punches – and getting thoroughly shattered in the process. Who would have thought it!
So, although I’m thoroughly enjoying the program so far – it’s a major shock to the body. I’ve gone from being a couch potato to ‘training like a boxer’ (well the guys on the video are, I’m more like a jumping/punching potato now). But I’ve done 3 days – I managed to keep going for every 2 minutes of intense exercise, taking my minute to recover in-between (desperately) – and then off again. It’s really tough, and even though I’ve got a long, long way to go – it feels do-able. Even for me.
The 5 to 1 section – including rounds of press ups, crunches, star jumps & burpees jumps – Absolute killer. I went at my own pace (which was considerably slower). This will be the testing point for me – a measure to see how long it takes to catch up – as I improve.
# P.S. – Remember to take the cap off your water bottle before you start the workout. The workout is challenging enough without trying to remove the cap wearing boxing gloves – when you’re dying of thirst!
Cheers, John.
