Day 23 – The Toughest Boxing Workout

Toughest Boxing Workout

Toughest Boxing Workout
I’ve created a new diet – wear boxing gloves for dinner!  It’s so difficult to eat, you’re guaranteed to lose weight. Just kidding! – but in all seriousness I’m taking a hard look at my food intake.  I’ve often heard Corney and Steve saying “You can’t train out a bad diet”.  Now I’m seeing real results after 3 full weeks of boxing training, I’m wondering what benefits could I gain by watching what I eat too?

I like to think I eat fairly healthily.  But then when you start making an honest analysis of your diet, it can quickly become alarming.  I’ve never really looked at calories on processed foods.   If I eat snacks without checking – I’ll be undoing all my hard work on the punch bag.  Seems like a false economy.

So, in simple terms here’s a brief summary for John’s diet over the next few weeks;

No bread, butter, or jam for breakfast, just porridge or eggs.  No snacks in between meals.  As many home cooked evening meals as possible.  Processed foods to the bare minimum.  Alcohol only at the weekends, then only moderately.

We’ll see how it goes.  I’m feeling hungry already!

Today’s Boxing Workout – Power & Speed 3

Power & Speed 3 is a killer boxing workout – No doubt about it, I found this one the hardest so far.  This is another level – with all I’ve learnt in the past 4 weeks and more – packaged up into an intense 30 minutes.  It’s relentless.

I wasn’t prepared for the Squat Punch to the side (with weights) at the beginning!  Neither was I ready for the ‘Plank to Press-Up’ position followed by the ‘Floor Tricep Dips’.  Like I said, another level.

But I’m happy to say I managed it – with a good degree of competence, I’m far from just surviving!  It’s a good job this workout wasn’t scheduled until Week 4, there’s no way I could have coped in the 1st or 2nd week.

Room for improvement:  Throwing the Sneak Punch.  This felt a little awkward, timing the slip to the side before using the Sneak Punch.  Combinations involving the Sneak Punch, Uppercuts, Slips and Sit Downs – can all throw a spanner in the works for me.  They are ones I need to practice and perfect.

Cheers, John.
