Day 22 – Back On The Punch Bag

Punch Bag Training

punch bagHello – well, I had a great weekend catching up with a mate, I’ve been doing well on my diet so far and had a few well deserved beers. But now it’s time to get back to the punch bag and burn off those extra calories.

Back to Technique 3 – “Long Range” today. I really do like the combinations in this work out, my favourite one is jab, low cross, left hook, cross. It feels like you can get a lot of power in the hook as you rise from the low cross.

Here’s a quick clip of me giving it a go – it’s a bit scrappy, but I’m getting there. I need to keep my hands up and concentrate more on technique than power – but it was 4 rounds in so I won’t beat myself up too much. Still it’s a great little combination that makes you feel good when you get it right.

I really like Mondays because I feel so fresh after the weekend break. I thrashed the others on the video at 7 to 1 today, I had finished and they were still on 3. 🙂 . My skipping is improving too – I just need to work more on the cross overs and the double jumps, I hope to have them perfected over the next 5 / 6 weeks.

We work a lot on slipping during the first 2 combinations of this workout. Corney always says to remember to not slip too far… Just enough to avoid the punch. Slipping too far is not only a waste of energy, it makes you slower with the counter attack.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow as it’s new workout time – Power & Speed 3.

Cheers, Steve.
