Boxing Gel Wraps
My new toys for today
Technique 3 – “Long Range”
A bit of a change of write up today as I received my new toys ( Boxing Gel Wraps ) through the post just before I began my workout. I’ve always used normal wraps and don’t have a problem with them at all.. but my wife does. She is always insisting on washing them because they absolutely reek once they’ve been in my ripe old boxing gloves. So using her cleaning obsession to my benefit and selling her the idea it will save on washing, I bought some gel glove wraps.
So what are they like? They’re well made, they have plenty of wrist wrap for protection, the neoprene is comfortable, they mould really well to my hands and there is lots of knuckle protection..
I loved them..
That was until, I tried to get the little blighters into my gloves, which turned out to be a mini workout in itself.
To be honest Corney has always said try them with a glove before you buy, so it is my fault.
I managed the first bag round, with the tight fitting gloves fit to burst. At first I thought this is brilliant I can’t feel anything. But, and it might be because I’ve used wraps for years, I actually like to feel the punch through the glove. I’m so used to feeling the contact with the bag, limited though this is through wraps, that it felt that I was punching the bag with blow up gloves.
For the second round I chucked the gloves and just used the gel wraps on their own. To be fair, it was a much better experience, but I’m not sure they’re meant for that sort of vigorous usage. However I persevered and completed the workout (Tech 3 is my favourite workout so far).
So the verdict is “they’re not for me”. I do believe they are a good idea and could save time for beginners who might get tangled up in the standard wraps. It may well be the case that I’ve got the wrong type and other styles may suit me better.
Maybe when I get new gloves I will buy a bigger size and give these gel wraps another go. But for the time being I will shelve them and continue getting ear ache from the wife. 🙂
Cheers, Steve.
