Boxing Training
Power & Speed 2 today – DONE
Don’t worry, I haven’t evaporated into thin air like the photo might suggest. Although with the amount of sweating today it could have been a possibility.
Today I decided to take a leaf out of the England rugby teams book – not by rugby tackling the bag, but by putting in 100% effort. I’m not saying I don’t normally, but there is always room for improvement. Sometimes, as in all exercise, you can get into a groove and not push as hard as you are capable of. So today I made every exercise and drill as difficult as I possibly could… I left it all on the bag!
Skipping and shadow boxing I did double speed. I did all my press-ups nose to the floor – my squats and squat pulses were butt in the bucket (as low as I could go). With the bag drills I punched as hard as I possible could and raced the video people (which happened to be me and Rach) .. and I won. 🙂
With the bag drills, I also made sure I used every muscle in my body. I concentrated on throwing my hip and tensing my abs throughout. All the crunches I did with straight legs in the air and touching my toes.
After every single round I totally needed the rest period to recover… I was absolutely knackered. But at the end I felt amazing.
Get me to around week 6 and I intend to ramp it up even more to test myself (I’m not fit enough right now, but I will be). My press-ups will be press-up jumps, my squats – squat jumps and my crunches – V-sit-ups. One of the best things about these workouts is that they can be as hard as you want to make them. The fitter you are the more you can take out of it. The possibilities are endless.
So from me to you – if you find yourself slacking – be honest with yourself and give it some more. Personally I imagine what Corney or my 12 year old son might think if they were watching me. Would they be in awe of my effort? It’s simple, but it works every time.
